Happy November

I know I have been lax in writing in my classroom blog and I am sorry for that. Throughout October we worked hard on charts and matching animals to their habitats, along with what things in an ecosystem are biotic or abiotic.

We have also worked on decoding consonant and short vowels sounds along with matching characters, actions, settings, plots, themes and other literary elements in stories.

This month we are starting to really work on physical and chemical changes for science, while sometimes reviewing our solar system and life science information. Still continuing our work with reading and language, but adding long vowel sounds as well. Also, for math we have started to work with money math and money pattern math skills as well.

I also would like to state that the school's volleyball team has games this Monday and Tuesday for $2.00 or showing the student's black card. Also they have games again next Monday and Tuesday.

Again if there is ever something you feel the need to ask just email me.

congrats to all

First I would like to say I am proud of my whole class for all of them completing a third of the extended standards in the classroom.

The class is continuing their studies on fables and fairy tales for characterization, plot, setting, prediction and other related skills. In math the class is working on being able to read charts and graphs.

For Science we just finished up our unit on the solar system and starting some life science. this unit we will be sticking with for a while as we study the different biomes and ecosystems in our world.

For social studies and lifeskills we are starting to work on some basic map reading skills. I want to remind all the readers of this blog that the system has a teacher inservice day on Oct. 5th, and our school's homecoming game is Oct. 6th with the homecoming parade and Dance on Oct. 9th.

For week of September 7 through 11

Well it's been a short bit since the class blog last got updated, and I apologize for that but I was sick and then had meetings after that. Well so far we have been working towards place value and addition for 2 digit and more numbers.

I hope everyone enjoyed their Labor Day weekend. This week we start working towards learning about the planets and our solar system. The class will start building their own solar system on Thursday and Friday for an art project. This means you might want to have some extra shirts and things so they do not get messed up with paint on Thursday or dyes on Friday.

Unfortunately I have a required state training this Thursday so a substitute will be in my room along with the paraprofessional. But the art experiment for the class will be making soap based 3D model planets and will have to label them as well.

Well remember if you have questions I am always free to answer them.

start of the week August 17 - 21

Today we started 2 new units in the classroom. We have begun our second story for the year since all of the class scored an A on reading the first story, "A Cat". The second story is entitled "Spider" and I have sent a copy home with all the students. They heard it and worked on it this morning with different opinions of it so far.

When asked T5 mentioned, "I don't know" and with prompting he said "yes I like spiders"
C5 - "I think um" *giggles* "I think the spider is pretty, and it bites you"
T7 - ""Yuck, Yuck! That is what I think. It was yuck yuck yuck"

Then we started the second area of science discussing and learning about the bones in the body, while talking about food and health. Along with working on our sequence and pattern skills in math. T5 seems to really enjoy math over reading and writing. But when asked if he wanted to do math he said, "Oh What, oh no No no no no." repeatedly 2 times.

Well hopefully we will all be able to be here the whole week without the tropical storm causing us to miss class. Tuesday morning we will get to have our first library experience.

Hello new Year

Hello and welcome back students to a new year at our school. I know we will enjoy the year, learn a lot about each other, gain some life and vocational skills, and have fun in the process. I hope to use this blog to have it updated at least weekly for all to see and view. Please remember to return forms and items sent home on Aug. 10th back to the school as soon as possible so we can do all the activities I have planned for this class.

For those that do wish to comment on posts in the blog you have to have a google account first. I also scan and moderate all comments prior to them being published on this blog.
